Harry Potter
“It’s LeviOsa, not levioSA!” Calling all Harry Potter fanatics! Head Pacific Beach on October 2nd for a magical night of witchcraft and wizardry at Backyard Kitchen & Tap, and enjoy a full-length showing of Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone at 7 p.m. Be sure to get there early for happy hour starting at 6 p.m., and get your fill of potions and elixirs concocted for the occasion.

Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Patch
Get in the seasonal spirit with a trip to Bates Nut Farm for their annual. Pumpkin Patch, which officially opened September 22nd, and is open right up until Halloween. Open all week long, families can enjoy hayrides, a straw maze, pony rides, petting corral and picking out their very own pumpkins to take home. The weekends also include face painting, bounce houses and slides, food trucks, funnel cakes and live entertainment from Noon to 3:00 p.m. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash, and parking is $5 cash on weekends in October.

Pacific BeachFest
Soak up the sun at the annual Pacific BeachFest, held on Saturday, October 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. A full day of activities awaits, as the festival kicks off with a beach 5k and ends with a sunset yoga session, held outside of PB Shore Club. You also won’t want to miss out on helping judge the Fish Taco Contest, with restaurants such as Fish Shop, Duck Dive and The Local PB participating. Listen to live music and enjoy shopping local, as many PB businesses will have booths setup so you can browse all the neighborhood hot spots. This event is free, but some of the activities required pre-registration which can be done through the event website.

Carlsbad Oktoberfest
The month for Octoberfests has finally come, and the city of Carlsbad hosts a Family Fall Festival on Saturday, October 6th from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Enjoy great food and drink, like traditional German brats and sausages with potato salad and sauerkraut, along with lighter grilled chicken and other tasty sides. Additional food booths will be serving pumpkin pie, kettle corn, hot dogs and apple strudel! Taste of North Park
On Saturday, October 13th experience North Park like never before at the Taste of North Park even featuring the best bites and beers in the neighborhood. From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., culinary enthusiasts can enjoy over 50 food tastes from spots like The Smoking Goat, City Tacos, Underbelly, Shank and Bone and Tribute Pizza. 15 craft breweries will also be participating to offer 4 oz samples of their top beers. North Park Beer Co., Juneshine and Rip Current Brewing are just a few you can look forward to. Friday Night Feels

Ocean Beach Oktoberfest
San Diego’s wildest Oktoberfest is a two-day event held in Ocean Beach on Friday, October 12th and Saturday, October 13th. Look forward to live music and a beer garden featuring Mike Hess, OB Brewery and Kilowatt, among others. Ocean Beach Oktoberfest also has tons of friendly competitions including a brat eating contest, stein holding, balloon inflating and sausage toss. Dine Out for the Cure
For one tasty day, local restaurants, bakeries and coffeehouses across the city are pledging to participate in Susan G. Komen San Diego’s annual Dine Out for the Cure, uniting local restaurants with Komen San Diego’s supporters during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On October 18th, restaurants like Hob Nob Hill, located in Banker’s Hill, will be donating 25% of their day’s profit to help women and men who are fighting breast cancer every day. Encinitas “Dia de los Muertos”
The Encinitas Chamber of Commerce is hosting their annual Dia de los Muertos on October 27th, which brings together local and regional talents to celebrate the visual and performing arts of the major Mexican cultural event. Established to foster an appreciation and awareness of Latino Cultural Celebration, event attendees can experience a variety of art-making workshops, artist demonstrations, student exhibitions, live Mariachi and other musical performances. Admission is free, and the event lasts from Noon until 4:00 p.m. at the Encinitas Community Center – 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive.

Navy vs. Notre Dame Football Game
On October 27th, The Navy Midshipmen are hosting storied rivals Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the college football game of the season and there is plenty to do around San Diego! Pacific Beach Shore Club is hosting the biggest Navy tailgate in the city, which includes pre-game drinks at Shore Club, transportation to the game and an all-inclusive tailgate with food and drinks. They are also selling tickets to the game, or you can opt for the tailgate only package – both can be purchased here. San Diego Pet Con
Animal lovers rejoice – The San Diego Pet Con is coming to the Delmar Fairgrounds on October 27th! The pet-friendly event will feature tons of local and regional exhibitors, prize giveaways and fun for both two-legged and four-legged attendees, discounted vaccinations, live entertainment and the latest and greatest pet products. San Diego Pet Con is also a mega-adoption event, with dozens of rescue groups and available pets. Don’t forget to dress your pet up for the costume contest! Balboa Park Halloween Family Day
Balboa Park’s 10th Annual Halloween Family Day, the region’s largest FREE Halloween carnival, will take place on Saturday, October 27th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Giving families a fun, safe and culturally inspired kickoff to Halloween festivities, the day includes mini-carnival games, San Diego Air & Space Museum’s rooftop pumpkin drop, a “Thriller” flash mob and dance lesson, along with much more! Over two dozen participating museums and cultural attractions will also present free craft projects for kids, costume parades, and tons of spooky surprises, along with free admission to children 12 and under with paying adult.

Trick or Trot 5k
On Sunday, October 28th participate in the Trick or Trot 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run, a course that will take you through Morley Field and the Florida Canyon, near the edge of Balboa Park. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and prizes will be awarded for best individual costume, small and large group costumes, as well as the fastest runners. Individuals and families alike are encouraged to participate, with fundraising efforts put towards Roosevelt’s After School Clubs and Enrichment Programs.
