Best Breakfast Spots in Point Loma

If you’re not sure where to begin your early morning conversion, drill these three principles into your half-asleep brain: closeness to the coast, coffee and carbs. These restaurants hit all three requirements with their tempting breakfast offerings. Next time your alarm goes off and you’re tempted to hit snooze, consider any one of these breakfasts and think again.

Con Pane Rustic Breads & Cafe

Open Thursday-Monday, 7:00-6:00. 2750 Dewey Rd

In the interest of full disclosure, I have to say that I’ve eaten a lot of cinnamon rolls–probably far too many. That being said, Con Pane has the best cinnamon rolls I’ve ever eaten. Whether you get them with or without raisins, the only reason you’ll be disappointed is if you arrive too late and they’re already sold out. Console yourself with any of their other delicious baked goods, sandwiches, or coffees. Beware of weekends as the lines can get a bit long, but every bite of that famed cinnamon roll will make the waiting disappear from memory.

To The Point Cafe & Eatery

Open daily, 7:30-2:00. 4161 Voltaire St.

To The Point, tucked away near the corner of Voltaire and Catalina, will cater to all of your creative breakfast desires. They do offer more traditional breakfast fare (think omelets, cinnamon rolls, and acai bowls) but the real stars are their creative spins on more traditional dishes. Bruschettas, breakfast skillets, and a wide variety of benedicts, are the perfect mix of comfort food and originality. Plus, their Nutella Mocha pairs well with pretty much anything on the menu.

Little Lion Cafe

Open Tuesday-Sunday, 8:00-3:00. 1424 Sunset Cliffs Blvd

A Point Loma community favorite, you’ve probably driven right by Little Lion on your way to Ocean Beach—next time you pass the tiny building with the striped awning, make sure you stop. Three local San Diego sisters serve up food that you’ll dream about for weeks. My personal favorite, the Belgian waffle with homemade whipped cream and berries, is the perfect fuel for whatever your day might hold.

Bonus! Little Lion is open for dinner Thursday through Saturday, so consider coming back for the French Grilled Cheese.
