Nighttime Zoo at the San Diego Zoo | Throughout July

The San Diego Zoo’s Nighttime at the Zoo continues through July! Celebrate summer into the evening with live music, fun shows and activities, animal encounters and so much more. During Nighttime at the Zoo, the zoo stays open until 8:00 p.m. so you and your family can enjoy animal presentations, keeper talks and even the Wild About Animals and Dr. Zoolittle Explores Africa shows. Nighttime at the Zoo is included with SD Zoo admission and/or membership.


Barrel Republic Carlsbad + Sierra Nevada Brewing Company Collab | Wednesday, July 3rd

Start your Independence Day celebrations a day early at the craft beer mecca of San Diego- Barrel Republic. On Wednesday, July 3rd, Barrel Republic in Carlsbad is coming together with Sierra Nevada Brewing Company for an all-day beer lovers’ event, where guests will get to enjoy classics from Sierra Nevada. For an exclusive taste of rare archived brews, head in at 4:00 p.m. Sierra Nevada will also have an expert on hand to talk you through the experience pour-by-pour and pass out some goodies. Anyone who gets into the holiday spirit by dressing up in patriotic attire or Sierra Nevada gear, will get to enjoy 10% of their bill!


Hotel Del Coronado’s Beach Bash | Tuesday, July 2nd

Celebrate Independence Week in Coronado with the annual Del Beach Bash! Come to The Del early on July 2nd for a beach party that includes live music by The Mighty Untouchables, fire pits with s’mores and an exciting fireworks display. The fireworks display will begin at approximately 8:45 p.m. The Beach Bash is complimentary for all overnight hotel guests and day visitors can purchase tickets, for $30, by visiting the event website.


4th of July Celebrations in Coronado | Thursday, July 4th

On the 4th of July, Coronado Island celebrates with an annual parade, family-friendly activities and a spectacular firework show for all to see! The 4th of July Celebrations in Coronado is an all-day event, where you can setup your spot for the parade, along Orange Avenue, beginning at 5:00 a.m. The Crown City Classics (a 12k, 5k and kid’s half-mile fun run) begins at 7:00 a.m. and the parade kicks off at 10:00 a.m. Stay for the 4:00 p.m. Concert in the Park, at Spreckels Park, and finish the fun-filled day with fireworks at 9:00 p.m.!


The Smoking Gun’s Hotdog Eating Contest | Thursday, July 4th

Celebrate 4th of July Coney Island-style with a hotdog eating contest at The Smoking Gun! On Thursday, July 4th, the retro Gaslamp District bar will be hosting a hotdog eating contest that begins promptly at 2:00 p.m. The first round will see who can consume the most dogs in two minutes and will be followed by a championship round, where participants compete for a chance to win $1,000. 2nd Annual Red, White and Brews at Eppig Brewing | Thursday, July 4th

Eppig Brewing, located on Dickens Street in Point Loma/Shelter Island, will be celebrating Independence Day along the waterfront, with a special release of their Independence Pale Ale! Stop by the brewery’s

2nd Annual Red, White and Brews event, which includes extended biergarten hours from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., to try the specialty beer and enjoy tri-tip sandwiches and snacks, both of which are available for purchase. Balboa Park Greyhound Walk | Every Saturday in July

Greyhound owners and lovers! Bring your greyhound for an enjoyable weekly walk in San Diego’s lovely Balboa Park every Saturday at 10:00 a.m. This weekly walk, which is organized by Greyhound Adoption Center, gathers at the lawn at the end of Presidents Way (in front of the federal building that used to be the Hall of Champions). The walk is a leisurely stroll through Balboa Park (about a mile total) with three stops (in front of the organ pavilion, the botanical garden, and the Fleet Science Center fountain). All are welcome!


San Diego County Fair | Thursday, July 4th

If you haven’t yet made a trip to the 2019 San Diego County Fair, you’ve still got a few days left to check out all the action! Cheer on mini pig races, pet goats and other livestock, enjoy rides and carnival games and taste all the fried food you can, after all, it wouldn’t be a true visit to the fair without at least one deep-fried Oreo. You can also check out the Toyota Summer Concert Series, featuring KC and the Sunshine Band, Trace Adkins, Dionne Warwick and comedian Brad Upton. On the 4th of July, the Wicked Wahine Rooftop Bar will be hosting a luau-style dinner and specialty cocktails, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. You can also view the Fireworks Spectacular, which begins at 9:00 p.m., from the rooftop bar.


San Diego Pride Festival | Friday, July 12th – Sunday, July 14th

San Diego Pride kicks off July 12th with the Spirit of Stonewall Rally in Hillcrest, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. This is a time to recognize and honor leaders who are working hard to preserve gains and meet the many challenges still facing the community. The Pride Block Party takes place Friday, July 12th from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and tickets can be purchased here. On Saturday, July 13th, the San Diego Pride parade, which is among the largest Prides in the U.S. begins at 10:00 a.m. The parade route and details can be viewed on the event website!


66th Annual Over-The-Line Tournament | Saturday, July 13th – Sunday, July 14th  

The 66th Annual Over-The-Line Tournament, which will take place on Fiesta Island, invites San Diegans to cheer on teams as they compete against one another in the all day event. Parking is available on the northeast corner of Sea World Drive and Pacific Hwy, the Morena Vista trolley station or the Bonita Cove parking lot. Shuttles will bus OTL viewers beginning at 6:30 a.m., with the last trip off the island being around 6:00 p.m. There is no parking on Fiesta Island, but come prepared for the day with beach chairs, booze and snacks – all of which you can transport to the tournament via the shuttle bus.


Phil’s Big BBQ at Petco Park | Sunday, July 14th 

Phil’s BBQ presents the 11th Annual Phil’s Big BBQ at the Ballpark, an event supporting Operation Bigs – a mentoring program of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County. Del Mar Racing Season | Wednesday, July 17th – September

A true mark of summer in San Diego, race season at Del Mar begins on Wednesday, July 17th with Opening Day! Celebrate the season in style by dusting off your wildest hat, grabbing your best suit or dress and get ready for big bets and fast horses. Participate in the Opening Day Hat Contests, a tradition where contestants can enter to win cash prizes. Comic-Con International | Thursday, July 18th – Sunday, July 21st

July means the return of San Diego’s biggest event – Comic-Con! With a lineup so big we can’t possibly feature one or two events, there is plenty of entertainment for locals and visitors of all ages. Visit the exhibitor’s hall, sit in on a panel or just roam around the San Diego Convention Center taking it all in. If you don’t have a Comic-Con badge, have no fear. There are a handful of free events and attractions you can enjoy while walking around downtown. Star Wars Trivia at Duck Dive | Thursday, July 25th

 May the fourth be with you during The Duck Dive’s Star Wars Trivia night, taking place on Thursday, July 25th. Brush up on your knowledge of all things Darth Vader, Princess Leia and Chewbacca, as trivia will cover both the old episodes (think 1980’s) and the newer episodes, like The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Sip delicious cocktails and share snacks while showing off your jedi-trivia skills. Trivia begins at 8:00 p.m. and reservations are encouraged for groups of 6 or more.


San Diego Fruit Festival | Saturday, July 27th

The San Diego Fruit Festival, which takes place Saturday, July 27th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., will be held at Balboa Park’s Worldbeat Cultural Center! Listen to speakers, enjoy live music performances, participate in yoga sessions and visit vendors like Berry Fresh, Farm Fresh to You, Local Roots Kombucha, Imperfect Produce and more.
